I think that if I would have bought two packages of dye it would have been better but my daughter was happy with the pale pink. While you wait for the fiber to dry, bring one of the white cardboard papers, and shape it into a cone. Now fix it with a glue gun, and then use the red ribbon to swirl it around the cone.
You don’t want to spray paint the poly-fil too close, because the paint will spray on too thick and ruin the texture of the stuffing. Allow the painted ploy-fil to dry for approximately 1 hour. It doesn’t matter what kind of base you use for your costume, but aim to have your base a pink color, or whatever color cotton candy you are going for. I used a clear lawn/leaf bag and cut two leg holes in the bottom securing the holes with clear packing tape so the bag would not rip when she walked. I dressed her in a pink sweat suit and put three long pipe cleaners attached together loosely around her neck to secure the bag in place. We put a piece of poster board on her head like a dunce cap for the cone and put holes for the arms on the side again secured with clear packing tape. Start by spraying the cotton/fiber with the pink spray paint and leave it until it dries. Make sure it’s very well fixed on every side. While you are waiting for that to dry, roll up a sheet of paper into a cone large enough to sit on top of your head. If you're looking for a costume that reflects the sweeter side of Halloween, a cotton candy theme may just be the costume you’re looking for.
Take a handful of the fiberfill and form it into a cotton candy pouf. You will use this for your headpiece. Hot glue the pouf to a headband and also glue the cone you just made onto the top of the pouf. Secure the headpiece on your head with bobby pins if necessary. Once the fiberfill is dry, hot glue it to your dress. Make sure to use a lot of hot glue so that pieces of the fiberfill don’t fall off.
Be sure to glue some poly-fil in any spaces that have gaps between the stuffing (places like the sides of your dress or shirt, the underarms, dress straps, etc.). For example, if you are using a t-shirt and leggings for your costume base, draw a glue zig-zag across the bottom section of your t-shirt. It’s okay if there are sections that not as heavily painted as other sections. This will actually help the poly-fil look more like real cotton candy.
